Our Community

In the municipality of La Broquerie we’ve always known we have something special. Here, in the heart of beautiful Southeastern Manitoba, we’ve built a fully bilingual community that we believe captures the essence of healthy country living – a community that is safe, cooperative and friendly, a community that is respectful of its heritage while embracing opportunities for progress, a community that is small enough to care, but is also big enough to prosper.

La Broquerie is Manitoba’s fastest growing rural municipality. During a time when many of Manitoba’s rural communities have experienced decline, La Broquerie’s peaceful country setting and vibrant community life have helped attract new people and new business to our community. It has also helped encourage many of our young people to stay, live and work here. The result is a dynamic and youthful community where the average age is 26.8 years, nearly 12 years below the provincial average (2011 census).

A Place of Heritage

Since our community’s founding by French Canadian pioneers in 1883, La Broquerie’s residents have shared a common desire to preserve their French culture and heritage. The town maintains an elected cultural community whose focus is to promote and preserve the French Canadian culture locally. To this end, La Broquerie hosts an annual festival, Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste in June. This event is enthusiastically celebrated in the true French tradition, and provide wonderful opportunities for everyone in the community to come together and socialize.
